STEPPING ON STIGMA
ABOUT THIS INITIATIVE
This Project is an outreach initiative that involves the collaboration between professional dancers and local Vancouver street musicians in an effort to create professional shows that strive to raise further awareness about relevant, social issues through live performances. Every performance will be held free of cost for the viewer, with the opportunity to donate. 50% of the public's monetary contribution will be donated to the Canadian Mental Health BC Division and their development of youth programs throughout the province.
Reforming Art Productions will be taking dance to the streets of Vancouver! We will be collaborating with local street musicians and performers to create innovative and exciting pop-up performances that will premier from May 19 – July 29 2016. This collaboration project is in an effort to further encourage the development of local emerging artists, while also providing further awareness to the public about social stigmas.
Our vision for this program is to use live performances as a voice to end the silence that empowers negative stigmas attached to many social issues.
In accordance to this project, RAP will be holding a 5 day summer mentorship program for young emerging dancers from July 18 – 22 2016. Participants of this program will not only receive high-calibre training, but will also be a part of new works that will be premiered in our finale performance on July 22. Each work created will involve a process that will offer each dancer the opportunity to learn about relevant social issues, all while participating in a project to create positive change through movement, collaboration, and the act of giving back to the local community.
